Mural Booklet - Dedicated to the memory of Thomas Hutton

ThomasThis Book is dedicated to the memory of our very good friend and colleague Thomas Hutton.

When the murals were thought of we knew it was going to be a huge task. We had an arched wall 129ft long that had to be sealed and primed for the painters

No one worked harder or gave more of themselves than Thomas. Every night and some days Thomas was there priming, moving scaffold, erecting and taking scaffold down, never once did he complain his work rate and enthusiasm inspired us.

At this time we did not know how ill Thomas was, on reflection it makes his efforts all the more remarkable. Thomas was a giant among men his courage and bravery we can only stand back now and admire, and make sure it sustains us to greater projects in the future. We know Thomas would approve. Quiet and unassuming never a cross word he loved the societies work and was always to the forefront.

We all owe Thomas a debt of gratitude and are proud to have been able to call him friend.

Sadly Thomas lost the battle on Sunday 13th February 2005, but his memory will live with all of us forever.

We salute you
Thomas Hutton
Friend and Colleague

The booklet explains fully in detail what each mural stands for. The purpose of this booklet is to educate the many tourists that visit Belfast and people from within our own community and in particular our children. Many copies of this booklet will be provided free to local school children.

As a Society we believe that once people have read the booklet and observed the murals they will have a much better understanding of our history and culture.

This booklet can be purchased from the Union Jack Shop or directly from any member of the Society.
